Are you feeling confined by coaxial cable? What do you do if you have an older hotel or apartment building, and residents want gigabit Wi-Fi? On World Wi-Fi Day, I would like to share with you a recipe for delivering gigabit speeds to buildings with old-world charm – at a fraction of the cost and hassle of rewiring the entire building.

Residents and guests want high-speed connectivity with low latency for gaming, conferencing and file transfer. They want access to be simple, and they want coverage across the entire venue. Property owners want to deliver a superior digital experience while also improving security and efficiency. Newer buildings have the lead with a fiber infrastructure. Older buildings can now also support Wi-Fi 6 speeds without replacing the coax throughout the building.

“It’s all about delivering an exceptional customer experience for both the property owner and hotel guests,” says Pierre Trudeau, President and CTO of Positron Access Systems. “It takes the right technology and partners to meet this expectation.”

The G.hn Aggregation Multiplexer (GAM) from Positron delivers up to 1.7 Gbps aggregate bandwidth with low latency over the existing coax, or telephone pairs. This is an ideal backbone for Cambium Networks Wi-Fi 6 indoor access points (AP) to be deployed in every other room to maximize coverage. In two older hotel projects, each GAM served 16 APs and 32 guest rooms.

“When a property owner is sitting on coax, we can use the infrastructure to bring Gigabit capabilities,” says Kyle Beauchamp, Vice President, ImpruviX Division of World Cinema. “It’s an effective way to get them from either Wi-Fi 2 or 3 to Wi-Fi 6 without construction and associated costs.”

Teamwork delivers exceptional digital experiences. Pierre Trudeau explains, “By leveraging World Cinema’s world-class design, installation, and network management expertise, and harnessing the Positron GAM’s ability to extend gigabit speeds over the existing in-building wiring along with Cambium’s unmatched Wi-Fi 6 performance, efficiency, and reliability, we can create a seamless and satisfying user experience for everyone.”

I encourage you to download the details in the Boost Efficiency Using Existing Wiring and Indoor Wi-Fi solution paper.

Connectivity solution delivered by Future Technologies improves elder care and enables digital transformation while keeping costs under control

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., March 16, 2022 – Cambium Networks (NASDAQ: CMBM) enterprise networking solutions enable elder care facilities to provide excellent care in the nursing shortage and enable further efficiencies from digital transformation initiatives. The Villas of Holmdel provides human-centered, accessible and affordable care for assisted living residents. With Wi-Fi 6 access points (AP), cnMatrix™ switches and centralized cloud management from Cambium Networks, designed and deployed by Future Technologies, Inc., the 130,000-square-foot assisted living facility achieves excellence in care and is paving the way for future digital transformation initiatives while minimizing total cost of ownership.

Villas of Holmdel improves elder care with Wi-Fi 6 connectivity

Residents want the ability to connect with friends and family, and elder care operations managers need reliable Wi-Fi at reasonable costs. At the same time, challenges such as the ongoing shortage of nurses and caregivers, inflation driving costs higher, and lingering COVID issues are putting a strain on facilities to provide security and comfort with fewer staff.

The Villas of Holmdel, one of Hackensack Meridian Health’s newest assisted living facilities in New Jersey, is comprised of 110 rooms, 15 office rooms, a dining area, an indoor pool and other amenities. Campus-wide Wi-Fi coverage and high performance were essential for the Villas since residents and staff required higher density and capacity, especially at high-traffic, high-density nursing stations.

“Wi-Fi 6 connectivity enables our residents and nurses to do more than they could before,” said Walt Gant, Director, Hackensack Meridian Health. “They can now stay connected throughout the facility, and we’re able to focus on our core business. It will pave the way for us to do more for our residents in the future.”

Future Technologies Venture, LLC., which planned the network design and served as lead system integrator, deployed Cambium Networks’ XV2-2 and XV3-8 Wi-Fi 6 APs and EX2052-P switches to handle an uptick in simultaneous video streams, as well as an increasing number of concurrent network users. The Cambium Networks solution will also enable future IoT initiatives, such as sensors, controls and potentially robotics. These future initiatives include robots for cleaning floors, delivering items to residents and remote patient monitoring – a critical need at elder care/memory care facilities.

“With the Cambium Networks solution, we were able to offer complete coverage and capacity with 64 access points – immediately reducing the hardware and associated installation costs by one third. Being able to reduce the total access point count by 35% and having a single pane of glass to manage the system really made a big difference in meeting these needs,” said Peter Cappiello, CEO, Future Technologies. “We considered other options, but they couldn’t provide the end-to-end solution portfolio capabilities we required to meet the technical and commercial requirements of The Villas.”

The deployment of Cambium Networks’ Wi-Fi 6 APs and switches are managed under the cnMaestro™ wireless network management system. The entire network is monitored and managed from one screen and the service comes at zero operating expense. Future Tech designed the solution so the facility can self-maintain.

“Care facilities need a communications network that must be seamless, reliable and easy to manage so that the primary focus is on patient care,” said Atul Bhatnagar, president and CEO of Cambium Networks. “Working with our partner Future Technologies, we were able to equip The Villas with great connectivity at an attractive total cost, enabling them to focus on providing excellent care at a time of significant nursing shortage and skyrocketing inflation.”

In a recent ranking of Wi-Fi 6 access points, the Tolly Group, an independent testing analysis organization, concluded that Cambium Networks’ products outperformed competitors Aruba, Meraki (Cisco) and Ruckus in terms of performance and total cost of ownership. What’s more, Cambium Networks’ Wi-Fi solutions are certified and proven for healthcare applications

Leader in outdoor wireless solutions announces new high efficiency Wi-Fi 6 access points shattering the conventional wisdom of Wi-Fi performance and range

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Sep 14, 2021 – Cambium Networks (NASDAQ: CMBM), a leading global provider of wireless networking solutions, today announced new XV2-2T outdoor Wi-Fi 6 access points capable of covering significantly larger areas in campus area networks and public Wi-Fi hotspot applications compared to competitive solutions. The new access points offer up to 1 km range, enabling a significant reduction in the equipment and cost required to cover a given area. When paired with Cambium Networks’ multi-gigabit 60 GHz cnWave solutions for Wi-Fi backhaul, network operators can blanket large areas with blazingly fast speeds.

The XV2-2T outdoor Wi-Fi 6 access point is the latest addition to Cambium Networks’ wireless fabric portfolio of solutions composed of multi-gigabit fixed wireless distribution and backhaulindoor and outdoor high-performance Wi-Fi access, and wireless-optimized switching – all centrally managed through the cnMaestro™ system.

In field trials, the XV2-2T was recently deployed during an Olympic trials track event at the McKenzie Community Track in Oregon as part of a pop-up network with a PMP 450 CBRS broadband infrastructure to support hundreds of attendees, athletes, and staff onsite, in addition to live streaming video of the event.

“The XV2-2T has high-gain antennas that consistently supported excellent performance at extended ranges. During the event, one AP covered the entire facility and delivered sufficient bandwidth to stream video from the event with no problems to 157 unique user devices,” said T. Geoff Turner, CEO, Elevate Technology Group, a leading Managed Service Provider (MSP) in Oregon who managed the installation. “Users were able to connect across the stadium to the AP at distances of several hundred meters with no issues.”

“We are beyond pleased with the performance and more importantly the coverage of the XV2-2T,” said Chaz Hager, President, North River IT, an MSP in North Dakota. “For an ‘outdoor’ AP, it should be called a ‘go through anything AP’ as it is breaking down barriers in tough to reach locations to solve tough installation challenges.”

“We installed the Cambium XV2-2T in a public open area of our campus. It has been impressive, with much better range and capacity compared to older generation technology,” said Shawn Kung, Director, Information Technology at the University Mary Hardin-Baylor. “This solution fits well with our needs in expanding coverage across campus in public spaces and dense event areas. Even more intriguing is the ability to combine it with Cambium’s 60 GHz cnWave for the Wi-Fi backhaul as an end-to-end wireless solution”

“Cambium Networks has a heritage of delivering innovative wireless technology solutions,” said Rad Sethuraman, Vice President of Product Management at Cambium Networks. “As examples of this, our point-to-point wireless technology has delivered voice calls and high-definition video up to 245 km distances. Our 60 GHz cnWave Wi-Fi solutions are capable of >10 Gbps speeds connecting buildings and sites across campus and metro networks. And now, the new XV2-2T outdoor Wi-Fi 6 solution delivers usable range up to 1 km and is able to do so at a significantly lower total cost of ownership compared to competitive solutions in the market.”

The XV2-2T includes key functionality that delivers outstanding coverage and performance, including:

  • Unique antenna design: High-efficiency antennas deliver an average of 7 dBi gain over 360 degrees with maximum gain and minimum nulls
  • PoE-out up to 30 Watts for external IP/Ethernet devices such as an IP camera, 60 GHz node, or another Wi-Fi access point
  • longer guard interval and preamble boost to improve signal integrity particularly in interference prone networks
  • All-in-one design with integrated wall or pole mount hardware maximizes deployment flexibility
  • Coverage options include omni-directional and 120-degree sectored

As evidence of the solution’s capabilities, Cambium Networks conducted outdoor range testing of the XV2-2T and several competitive solutions connecting to a smartphone client. The omni-directional version of the AP delivered four times the range compared to Ruckus and Meraki solutions connecting to a smartphone. At a 1 km distance, the system was able to deliver over 20 Mbps sustained downstream throughput. The results of these tests can be viewed in this video and summarized in the following chart.

Cambium Networks XV2-2T Outdoor Wi-Fi 6 AP Outperforms the Competiton

“The XV2-2T’s greater range means that a given area can be covered with far fewer APs,” said Bruce Miller, Vice President of Enterprise Marketing, Cambium Networks. “This translates to significantly lower equipment, backhaul, cabling, installation and ongoing maintenance costs. Combine this with the highly attractive price point of the product itself and you dramatically reduce both the initial investment in the solution and the total cost of ownership over its lifetime.”
