Industry expert joins to spearhead NETGEAR Enterprise sales and channel management across the region

October 22, 2025, San Jose, Calif. – NETGEAR® Inc. (NASDAQ: NTGR), a global leader in intelligent networking solutions designed to power extraordinary experiences, today announced the appointment of Luca Marinelli, who joins the company as Head of Europe, overseeing the development of NETGEAR’s enterprise customer portfolio and channel partnerships in the region as well as nurturing its expanding European team.

Marinelli has extensive experience in the technology industry, having held senior roles at Citrix, Microsoft, Cisco, Exclusive Networks, Check Point and Alludo. He spent nine years at Cisco, becoming Managing Director of Channels for the EMEA region, and seven years at Microsoft in Italy where he became Senior Director Enterprise Major and Global Accounts. Following this, he joined Exclusive Networks Italia as CEO and General Manager, taking responsibility for all aspects of the cybersecurity-focused business. At Citrix, Marinelli was VP Partners & Field Marketing for EMEA, and at Alludo he ran the EMEA & ANZ regions.

As NETGEAR embarks on the next chapter of its journey to grow its enterprise networking business in Europe, Marinelli will be instrumental in driving the next phase of the company’s channel strategy, expanding collaborations with a new generation of partners and strengthening its Managed Service Providers (MSP) ecosystem. Building on a robust enterprise networking portfolio — recently enhanced with the integration of Exium’s SASE Security solutions — he aims to accelerate NETGEAR’s growth in the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) segment.

Eric Law, Vice President, Worldwide Sales at NETGEAR, said: “Luca brings an impressive background steeped in the European tech industry and he has a deep knowledge of how to build a loyal and proactive channel, support customers and inspire sales teams to achieve great results. He is experienced in delivering strong leadership alignment and we are confident that Luca will be instrumental in driving our vision for enterprise companies across Europe.”

“I am delighted to join NETGEAR at such a pivotal point for the company,” said Marinelli. “As NETGEAR expands its business, I will be looking to develop a sales team focused on success and best practice, working in tandem with our channel to deliver high-powered, memorable experiences to customers.”

With a solid partner foundation already in place, NETGEAR is now shaping a channel-driven approach tailored to today’s business environments. Marinelli’s leadership will help to deliver on the vision outlined for the enterprise business earlier this year.

October 1, 2025, San Jose, Calif. – NETGEAR® Inc. (NASDAQ: NTGR), a global leader in intelligent networking solutions designed to power extraordinary experiences, today announced a tailored security solution for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Based on an acquisition made earlier this year, NETGEAR delivers Exium, the industry’s only all-in-one Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) and hybrid firewall solution designed specifically for SMEs and the managed service providers (MSPs) that support them. Coinciding with National Cybersecurity Awareness month, the enterprise-grade security and networking offering is available to organizations worldwide.

SMEs Face Rising Cybersecurity Threats

According to the Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report SMEs faced more than 3,000 cybersecurity incidents, nearly four times as many cybersecurity incidents as large enterprises, in 2025. Despite this increased risk, many security solutions remain overly complex or fragmented, making them difficult for smaller businesses to implement and manage effectively.

Delivering on the vision for NETGEAR’s enterprise offering set forth by NETGEAR for Business President and GM Pramod Badjate, integration of the Exium SASE platform fills this gap by providing SMEs with a unified solution that combines advanced threat protection, AI-powered zero-trust network access (ZTNA), secure web gateway (SWG), SD-WAN, and firewall capabilities in a single, user-friendly platform.

The platform allows SMEs to replace certain outdated, fragmented security systems with a modern, cloud-managed solution. All features are managed through a centralized, intuitive interface, simplifying network operations and security management. This helps enable businesses to protect data, users, and devices across multiple sites and remote locations with ease.

“Small and medium businesses are just as exposed to cyberthreats as larger enterprises, if not more, but most security solutions are either too complicated or piecemeal for them to handle,” said Farooq Khan, Vice President of Software Security at NETGEAR. “By integrating Exium with our networking solutions, we’re offering SMEs easy-to-use, enterprise-grade protection. This helps empower them to counter modern threats confidently, lessening the burden on internal IT teams.”

Built for Managed Service Providers

The platform is optimized for MSPs, offering multi-tenant management and streamlined service delivery. This scalable, cost-effective security framework equips SMEs with the tools needed to help build a secure and resilient network infrastructure. With this solution, businesses can focus more on growth and innovation.

Exium is available now from NETGEAR. Current partners or MSPs wishing to become NETGEAR partners as well as SME customers looking to connect with the right partner can visit https://netgear.com/business/solutions/netgear-exium/ to learn more.

In 2025, reliable Wi-Fi is no longer a luxury — it’s an essential infrastructure. Whether it’s a school with hundreds of students relying on cloud-based learning platforms or a mid-sized business supporting hybrid work and IoT devices, connectivity is at the heart of daily operations. Yet across both SMEs and educational institutions, common WiFi-related challenges persist, hindering efficiency, learning, and security.

https://www.netgear.com/hub/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/wifi-for-schools-gi-658984461.jpg

Schools Depend on Connectivity

The WiFi challenges of today aren’t just technical — they’re operational. SMEs and schools alike are grappling with an increased dependency on connectivity, but lack the corresponding tools, budget, or expertise to manage it effectively. Addressing these issues requires more than just new hardware — it demands smart design, cloud-managed platforms, enhanced security practices, and education for both IT staff and users. Here are the top 10 issues we found at NETGEAR Enterprise.

1. Inconsistent WiFi Coverage

Inconsistent WiFi coverage remains a widespread issue, especially in buildings not originally designed for dense networking. Many offices and schools still deal with dead zones, particularly in stairwells, corners, older classrooms, and meeting rooms. Extending coverage with mesh or additional APs is often a patchwork solution rather than a holistic redesign.

2. Network Performance Under Strain

Network performance under heavy load is another pain point. With most users now carrying at least two to three connected devices — laptops, phones, tablets, even wearables — legacy networks are buckling under the strain. Classrooms with 30 students or small offices with high device density suffer from slow speeds and frequent drop-offs, especially during video conferencing or streaming.

3. Security Concerns Intensified

Security concerns have intensified as networks have become more open and accessible. Many organizations still lack robust user authentication, segmentation, or proper firewall configurations. Guest networks often overlap with internal traffic, creating exposure. In schools, unmanaged student devices present additional risk, while SMEs struggle to enforce consistent access policies across distributed teams.

4. Network Management Challenges

Network management is often reactive rather than proactive. Both sectors typically lack real-time visibility into performance, device behavior, or potential bottlenecks. Without centralized cloud-based management, IT teams waste time manually troubleshooting rather than focusing on optimization.

5. Budget Limitations = Delayed Upgrades

Budget limitations lead to outdated infrastructure. It’s not uncommon to find organizations still running WiFi 4 or early WiFi 5 equipment. The result is poor compatibility with newer devices and an inability to benefit from modern features, such as OFDMA or advanced beamforming. These institutions are caught in a cycle of deferred upgrades, unable to justify the capital expense without a crisis.

6. Scalability Challenges

Scalability challenges are especially pronounced in growing organizations. Adding new users, devices, or even temporary spaces, such as pop-up classrooms or remote

offices, often disrupts the network design. The original WiFi layout rarely supports organic growth, leading to patchy expansion strategies.

7. Environmental Interference

Environmental interference is another overlooked factor. Dense urban areas, legacy building materials such as brick and concrete, or even neighboring Wi-Fi networks can degrade performance. Schools in older buildings and SMEs in multi-tenant offices often face signal disruption from external sources beyond their control.

8. Guest access Overlooked

Guest access is usually an afterthought. Few organizations properly segment guest traffic or apply bandwidth limits. This can lead to visitors consuming more than their fair share of resources or, worse, creating security liabilities. A lack of automated provisioning or self-service portals further complicates this.

9. Bandwidth Uncontrolled

Bandwidth misuse and lack of filtering are ongoing issues, particularly in education. Without proper content controls or traffic shaping, streaming, gaming, and unauthorized cloud services can consume excessive bandwidth, reducing availability for critical applications. The same applies in business environments, where productivity can suffer due to unrestricted access.

10. Out of Date Networks

Finally, networks are failing to keep pace with new technologies. While WiFi 6E and WiFi 7 are being rolled out, many organizations are years behind in their adoption. New devices, such as smartboards, security cameras, and collaboration tools, demand more from networks that were never designed to handle such loads. Without support for multi-gig backhaul, proper AP placement, or future-ready switching, performance suffers — even on the latest hardware.

In the world of acronyms, internet technology rules. The wireless acronym MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) got some additional letters a few years ago with with MU-MIMO and techies couldn’t be happier. Read on to find out what changed and why it matters.

What is MU-MIMO?

MU-MIMO stands for Multi-User, Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output, a technology introduced with WiFi 5 (802.11ac) that allows a router to communicate with multiple devices simultaneously. Multi-user MIMO represents a significant advance over single-user MIMO (SU-MIMO), generally referred to as MIMO. MIMO technology was created to increase the number of simultaneous users a single r WiFi router or access point can support.

This aim was initially achieved by increasing the number of antennas on wireless routers. Router technology builds on previous standards, with MU-MIMO technology supporting concurrent users accessing WiFi 6, WiFi 6E, and superfast WiFi 7 networks for both uplink and downlink wireless communications.

How Do SU-MIMO and MU-MIMO Work?

How Traditional Single-User MIMO (SU-MIMO) Works

In SU-MIMO, the router focuses all of its antenna “spatial streams” on one device at a time. It will then send a burst of data to the laptop, then pivot to the phone, then on to the smart TV. That stop-and-go sequencing is simple but adds latency whenever several gadgets compete for airtime.

  • All spatial streams target a single client during each transmission cycle.
  • Beam-forming locks the signal onto that client to maximize speed and reliability.
  • Other devices wait their turn, so busy networks can feel sluggish compared with MU-MIMO.

How Multi-User MIMO (MU-MIMO) Works

With MU-MIMO, the router splits its antenna array into separate “lanes,” letting several devices receive data at the same time instead of queuing up for their turn.

  • Spatial streams are divided among multiple clients for true simultaneous transfers.
  • Bandwidth is allocated on the fly, so each device gets the speed it needs without slowing others.
  • Dedicated beamforming steers every stream toward its target, boosting overall capacity and throughput.

Benefits of MU-MIMO vs SU-MIMO for Home WiFi Users

There was a time not long ago when homes in the US had only a few connected WiFi devices. SU-MIMO could handle the load by servicing the first request while additional connections wait their turn. Times have changed and now the average US household has dozens of wireless devices like laptops, iPads, smartphones, and smart home IoT applications. The solution is MU-MIMO technology that allows multiple users to access router functions on spatial streams without the congestion.

Benefits of MU-MIMO for multiple devices include:

Reduced Buffering and Lag – MU-MIMO minimizes buffering during streaming and reduces lag in online gaming by providing a more stable connection.
Improved Network Efficiency – MU-MIMO increases overall network capacity and the number of streams available, allowing more devices to connect without compromising performance.
Enhanced User Experience – MU-MIMO facilitates smoother streaming, faster downloads, and more responsive WiFi efficiency for internet browsing.

Do You Need MU-MIMO?

Today’s WiFi routers are far more powerful than those supporting earlier WiFi standards. NETGEAR WiFi 7 routers with MU-MIMO and whole-home mesh systems are state-of-the-art, with real-world speeds up to 27 Gbps, coverage up to 10,000 sq. ft. and connectivity for 200+ devices. MU-MIMO is essential for most home internet users and advanced applications for streaming, gaming, and networking. But first you should:

  • Assess Your Network Needs – Determine if your current number of devices and internet usage patterns would benefit from MU-MIMO technology.
  • Consider Compatibility – Both the router and WiFi network connected devices need to support MU-MIMO to fully utilize its benefits for simultaneous data streaming.
  • Check your ISP and Modem Data Rates – You may need to upgrade your ISPs plan and your modem – a slow ISP plan will hold back even the fastest routers and mesh systems! The Nighthawk CM3000 Modem help you get the best from WiFi 7 routers.

How to Upgrade to MU-MIMO Enabled Routers

WiFi 7 and MU-MIMO technology sync perfectly with the latest virtual reality, augmented reality, AI applications, and streaming and gaming with millisecond response times.
